The Midland League season has now reached the half way point with both 1st and 2nd Teams having played their last matches before the winter break. Matches will resume on Saturday 15th February for the 1st Team and Sunday 16th February for the 2nd Team. There is a chance that we might play one re-arranged game on Saturday 8th.
Overall, it has been a positive start for both Teams this year although there have been a few ups and downs. It has been great to see a number of new faces joining the club this season including some people returning to the game after a few years away.
The Club Committee members hope all players and supporters enjoy a well earned break (hopefully with some time put aside for exercise) and look forward to seeing existing and any new players at the first training session of the New Year on Thursday 9th January, 20:00, at the University of St Andrews Sports Centre.
The first Midland Hockey League fixtures were played on Saturday and it was a good opening weekend for both the 1st & 2nd XI’s.
The 1st’s recorded a 2 – 1 win against Harris 3rd XI with goals from Moray Brodie and Lloyd Sayer, built on a strong midfield performance. The 2nd’s beat Monarchs 3rd XI by the same margin in a very open game with the goals coming from Bartholomew Upton and Lloyd Sayer.

Madras FP Men’s Hockey Club held their 50 anniversary celebrations in St Andrews on Saturday, 7th September. Over 30 current and former players enjoyed a tournament at the University Sports Centre in the afternoon under the watchful eye of Dave Duncanson. Three teams of mixed current and former players battled out 3 rounds of matches. All of us enjoyed friendly but also competitive hockey, glorious sunshine and even a fly past by the Red Arrows.
In the evening over 60 current and former players (including representatives from every decade of the Club’s existence) came together for a dinner at the Scores Hotel. Those present were able to hear speeches from players who had been involved with the club throughout the last 50 years including one of the Club’s founders, John Fraser as well having an opportunity to view a selection of material from the Club’s archives, courtesy of Ivor Hutchison.
A selection of photos from the day will be posted under the photos tab on the Web site so watch this space! Here’s to the Diamond celebrations
The first training session of the year will take place at the University of St Andrews Sports Centre on Thursday 22nd August at 20:00. We will be aiming gradually to build up fitness ahead of the first matches of the season on the weekend of 14th/15th September.
Look forward to seeing you all after the summer break.
This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the club’s formation. To celebrate this major landmark we are running an event on 7th September. There will be a tournament for current and former members in the afternoon and, for those still able to walk by then, a meal in the evening at the Scores Hotel. Partners will be welcome to attend the meal, which will cost £35 per head. We really do hope you will be available to join us for one or both of the events on the day.
If you are in touch with any former club members, please let them know about the event and put them in touch with the Club either via Bob Pitman (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Jeremy Upton (email@example.com)
25th Anniversary Celebrations
Our competitive season got off to a fine start on Sunday with the 2nd XI recording a 6 – 2 win against Perthshire 3rd XI. There were encouraging performances from a number of our new players as well solid performances from the regulars.
Hopefully a sign of things to come.
Now that the students have returned to the University for the new semester, our training time on Thursdays has moved from 19:00 to 20:00.
Please make sure you amend your diaries!
